Kiech-SHAUVER-MIller Gin

Monette, Arkansas

Cotton is in MaLeisa Finch’s blood. Her family’s farm goes back more than 100 years, and she started working at her father’s cotton gin when she was just 16. Today, she runs the place, leading the Kiech-Shauver-Miller Gin as it processes cotton from 15 nearby family farms.

What Cotton Can Build

Like the cotton farms that surround it, the Keich-Shauver-Miller Gin
plays an enormous role in the local community. “In our town, there are five cotton gins that are supporting the school,” says MaLeisa.

For MaLeisa, HomeGrown’s innovative DNA tracking system helps her gin output a better, more desirable product. “The farmers seem very excited about knowing where their cotton is going to be going now,” she says, which means they are more likely to produce more cotton and give her more business. By combining modern science with good ol’ American grit, MaLeisa and the Kiech-Shauver-Miller Gin are building something vital for generations to come.
